The early shift

Thursday, March 29, 2012

I worked the early shift at the Red Cross this morning. The woman who usually does the mornings had an appointment so we switched for this week. I thought it might be busier than the afternoon, but it wasn’t. There were a few housekeeping tasks to be done but there were no more clients than normal coming in to drop off or pick up equipment.

Margaret decided not to go with me this morning. She needed to have some tests done at the lab and was afraid it would be so busy in the morning that she’d have to wait too long. She made arrangements for the HandiDart to pick her up and take her to the hospital this afternoon. I’ll take her to the doctor tomorrow to get the test results.

By the time I finished my shift I would have been happy to stay home for the rest of the day, but we went to the matinee performance of The Iron Lady. My sinuses are really giving me problems and I think I’m getting worse instead of better. On the way home I stopped at the drug store to see what they would recommend for me. The pharmacist was very nice, but she wanted me to use some sort of nasal wash and just the thought of squirting water up my nose turned me right off.

So I bought a jar of Vicks VapoRub, came home and gave myself the steam treatment Mum used for us when we were young. I had a nice nap when I finished so perhaps it helped. I’m going to try another session before bed.
