The Guild offered a class on reverse appliqué sometime in 2013. One of the few quilting books I owned before I started quilting (how did that happen?) was on stained glass.
The instructor, Susan Sharkey, is a member of our Guild and she wrote the pattern herself. The pattern is lovely and her instructions were excellent but I had trouble with the execution. So much so that I never touched the piece after the class was over.
But this year the Guild had a UFO Challenge and, since this was one of my oldest UFOs, it went on my list. I finished the piecing over a few weeks of Tuesday bees. The quilting was quick, although not easy. I used a stitch-in-the-ditch around the leading but found I often slipped out of the ditch. I covered up those mistakes with a black Sharpie.
From a distance the piece looks good enough to hang for a couple of weeks in February to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
