Not again!

I worked on my quilt-along blocks yesterday and then started putting some cards together. I usually use an envelope finish on the cards but with the larger size I decided I’d use a binding instead. It is more work, but I think the results look better.

Today was my Farmer’s Wife day. I’m one block short of having 80 blocks finished. I fully intended to get that 80th one done but the quilting gods have conspired against me. I had four blocks that needed to be “fixed up” from the retreat weekend and the first three went very well. I didn’t hesitate at all about the fourth one; Broken Dishes was one of the first blocks I made for the Guild at our last Hands Across the Water.

IMG_8305When I made the block on the weekend it turned out to be an inch too small. I recalculated today, recut, and stitched. I even made sure the stripes were all going in the same direction. How on earth did I manage to mess up again in exactly the same way. There is obviously a problem with my math late in the day (and often early in the day too). I added 1.5 and .5 and ended up with 1.75! I’ve made notes for myself in several places so hopefully I won’t make the same mistake again. I’m pretty much out of those three fabrics so maybe new fabric will work better for me.

After lunch I baked some of Mum’s Honey Cookies (they are Honey Orange Cookies in my mind). Pat has his last Song Circle of the season tomorrow and now that I’m on the Board of Cran Hall I felt I should contribute something. Pat said I didn’t need to but when I suggested maybe I wouldn’t make cookies then he said that wasn’t what he meant! I think he wanted cookies.

I have some hand stitching to do this evening and for the rest of the afternoon I think I’ll do some prep work for my I’m A Farmer’s Daughter project.
