I’ve had so much fun today working on The Farmer’s Wife Sampler. I have several bins of fabric I use for this project – a big bin of Mum’s fabric, a smaller bin that holds the fabric I’ve already used in blocks, and a box that holds my completed blocks. There are a lot of fabrics I haven’t used yet, but in order to get the light, medium and dark shades I’ve had to use some fabrics more than once. Finding dark fabrics is the most difficult and I often have to dip into my own stash for those.
I finished two blocks today. I have two other blocks that have all the individual bits pieced; all I need to do is sew the rows together. I was anxious to move on to other blocks so I set them aside and will stitch those rows at the Tuesday bee. The Homemaker block used a combination of templates, paper piecing and rotary cutting. I think it is safe to say my piecing has improved since I last dipped into this project. Up to now I’d never used a template and for one of the blocks I was able to see the pattern called for flying geese so I used my own method to do it rather than cut the little triangles the pattern called for.
I continue to work at my hand quilting in the evening. It is such a slow process.
