On track

The quilting plan in my mind said I could be binding my quilt by Friday and I’m pretty much on track. For a short while early this afternoon I thought I might even be a bit ahead of schedule.

I finished the last three blocks with the template yesterday afternoon before supper. This morning I started the free-motion quilting around the pinwheels and in the corners. That went much faster than I expected and I had it done before I stopped for lunch. That was the point at which I thought I was ahead of schedule.

I needed to do some quilting on the border. I only had a couple of guidelines – it needed to be straight line stitching that wouldn’t require a lot of ends to knot and bury. I tried a couple of things of my own using a ruler and my Frixion pen. I didn’t like any of them so started looking through my books and magazines. I couldn’t find anything that didn’t require a paper template and lots of curves so I started over with my ruler and sorted something out that I thought was okay.

When I sat down to stitch I realized there would be knots and ends to bury so I simply added an extra line and was good to go. It has a bit of an off-kilter look to it but I like it.

I have two sides finished and, even with my paper work tomorrow, I shouldn’t have any trouble getting the rest done.
