We had a sell out crowd for our Thursday night house concert – Donné Roberts and Sarah Hamilton. Donné is a Madagascar native (as he said, the country not the movie) but spent more than ten years in Russia before moving to Toronto. Sarah was born and raised in the Yukon but has traveled to Australia and China with her music. They certainly brought a different vibe to our shows; it feels like we have gone international! They did a long show; it was after ten before they quit playing and midnight before we had the kitchen cleared and the house put back to more-or-less normal.
Donné and Sarah were scheduled to leave on the noon ferry Friday. I was the first one up in the morning and, because it had been a stormy night, I checked the ferries. Both the morning and the noon ferry had been cancelled. According to the weather reports the wind was to abate by afternoon but it was a tense afternoon until BC Ferries announced that they were resuming sailings at around 2:30. They left on the 5:15 ferry; with an hour and twenty minute crossing it was going to be tight to make it to their Comox show that night. Their host in Cumberland (from Wednesday’s show) volunteered to drive their gear to the Comox location so that saved them a half-hour.
We had dinner almost as soon as they left. Although we both would have liked to spend the evening at home we had another show to attend. At least this time we were guests so all we had to do was show up. If the show hadn’t been in a new theatre space we might not have gone but Pat wanted to check the space out for some of his upcoming shows. It was a good concert and we were both glad we went.
It has been a lazy day today. The sun is shining which made sitting in our chairs watching the water very tempting. Pat did eventually go down to the studio and I came upstairs and did some more quilting. I have three more pinwheel blocks to outline and then I can move on to the more challenging work – some free-motion quilting with a template.
