Didn’t we just spend four days in the theatre at the Film Festival?
This was the start of the Spring season of the Cinematheque Series and it was almost like a continuation of the festival. Spotlight is a group of four investigative journalists at the Boston Globe. When a priest is accused of molesting a child the team gets involved. Rather than make the story about one priest and one incident, their editor encourages them to go for the bigger story – the cover up of the incident by the Catholic church. As the investigation continues they find evidence linking over 80 priests with child abuse. The story also lets us see how the deeper story was covered up and ignored during the years preceding the story.
A good cast in the starring roles, and lots of other familiar faces.
