I’ve decided to set aside Sundays for cross stitching. Mum often spent Sunday evenings with her embroidery; our pillowcases were always hand embroidered with a crocheted edge. Over the holidays there was some Facebook talk about all of the Christmas stitcheries Mum made; I’ve been working on one Christmas stitchery for more than ten years and it is time to get it done.
I had a nice chat with Christy and Taylor this morning. When Christy and I were chatting the Advent calendar I’m working on came up. And that opened a whole can of worms!
Many years ago Kathryn asked if she could have the Advent calendar Mum made for us and that my kids enjoyed while they were growing up. I said yes, but she had to promise never to tell her sisters that she had it. I have since made a calendar for Christy’s kids and the cross stitch I’m working on is for Elizabeth. Over the holidays Christy and Kathryn were having a conversation on FaceTime and Christy spotted the Advent calendar on Kathryn’s wall. Seriously Kathryn, telling Christy that you were clearly my favourite was just mean! I’ve promised to send Christy another of Grandma’s Christmas stitcheries and, luckily, I have enough that I can also send one to Elizabeth.
Although I’ve had a few interruptions I’m making progress – stitch by stitch and inch by inch!
