Another day – another class. This one was run by the Guild and we were using our Jelly Roll pre-cuts to make Missouri Star Quilt Company’s pattern called Sticks and Stones. I was quite disappointed in the jelly roll I purchased; there wasn’t much contrast between the strips and there was a lot of white in them. Since I chose white as my accent block I feel like there isn’t much distinction and you barely see the pattern for all the busyness.
I started by randomly placing the strips but I decided it just looked like a mishmash. Then I thought it would work better if I had the accent blocks between two pieces of the same fabric. I’m still not very happy with the results and to be honest one doesn’t look any better than the other.
At this point I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I thought I could maybe try a different accent colour but that would involve a lot of reverse stitching and I’m not sure what colour would be better. It was also suggested that perhaps I go with the darker shades and pick more solids from my stash to contrast with the dark; I’m not sure I have anything in my stash that would work, but I heard that the fabric shop up the street is having a sale next week.
In any case there are still several strips to be sewn together in some order but for now this will become a UFO until who knows when!
