Filling up my days

There were four options for Jelly Rolls presented at the Guild demo last night. We were nearly finished and I still hadn’t seen anything I wanted to make in their upcoming class, which was fine with me. But the last one looked good and the jelly rolls I bought in Calgary will suit it, so I signed up. It is a one-day class in November; not that I expect to finish it in one day but at least I’ll get a start on it. I have a couple of projects that I should get finished before starting a new one but that isn’t really a necessity!

I noticed today on Facebook that the library’s book club had discussed The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I would have liked to have been in on that discussion. I thought I’d go online and see what books they are reading but the list was way out of date. I had a couple of back and forth comments with the library and was told they didn’t have the list ready for the website yet but I could pick up a copy from the library. They have two book clubs running, once a month on Tuesday evening and once a month on Thursday afternoon. The books they read are different so I picked up both lists this afternoon. Of course neither of the upcoming books are available but I put a hold on both of them. While I was waiting in line I glanced at the New Fiction books and saw one by the author of Good Girl; this one is called Pretty Baby and it came home with me.

After my trip to the library I walked up to the fabric shop. I was looking for a supply list for the chenille class and came home with so much more! I bought four layers of flannel and thread to match (for the class), picked up my October block of the month, and was persuaded to sign up for the Texada Retreat. The retreat usually fills up the first night it is offered; there are a group of regulars who have been going for years. I hadn’t even looked at the list because I missed the first sign-up night. Deb wanted to know why I wasn’t going (I stayed with her group in the Spring when I went) and I said I assumed it was full. She says it isn’t and she still has space to sleep with her group. She stays in a beautiful house just a short drive from the hall where we sew.

I have also decided to take a yoga class. I’ve tried the drop-in yoga at the Rec Centre but it wasn’t what I wanted. This class runs for six weeks in one of the newer yoga studios; it is advertised as Yoga for Seniors so I should be able to keep up.

And did I mention I’m going to Victoria when Pat has his next teaching gig at the beginning of November? I was trying to keep the cost down and considered taking the ferry to Comox and catching the bus to Victoria. When that seemed problematic getting from the ferry to the bus stop (because there is no public transport on Sunday) I decided to fly to Vancouver and bus from the airport. But the best timing for the bus was one that only went as far as the Victoria ferry terminal and then I’d have to find somehow to get to downtown Victoria on my own. The cost wasn’t that much different when you considered all the hassle so I’m going to fly on the same flights as Pat. I’m looking forward to wandering the shops, getting to Chinatown for pork buns, doing some Christmas shopping and maybe getting some quiet stitching done.

I finished my tablecloth today – just in time for the house concert on the weekend. I’ll post photos tomorrow.
