Before our trip to Victoria I had just one chapter left in my “real” book. Rather than take another physical book I depended on one of the many books I have on my iPad. When I picked it, I didn’t realize how similar it was to the last book I read, but No More Mulberries is a work of fiction.
This time an English midwife has met and married an Afghan man who is studying in England. They return to her husband’s home village to start a school and health clinic, hoping to improve the lives of his people. As she passes through Pakistan on her way home from a visit in England, she learns that her husband has been murdered. Miriam continues to work in Pakistan where she meets and marries Iqbal, also from Afghanistan. But returning to his village with the same goal in mind comes with obstacles that the couple may not be able to overcome.
