It was a trying day for me – and it’s only half over!
One of our Guild members is having a garage sale on the weekend; she has fabric, patterns and magazines up for grabs. She promised the Guild members a preview of these items today. I didn’t want to get there too early but I didn’t want to miss out on anything either. I headed out about 9:30 and when I got to the house there was a note on the door that the preview was delayed until tomorrow. Sadly I won’t be able to take part as we will be on the first ferry out.
I wasn’t home for more than a few minutes when the Red Cross in Victoria called. Due to some management changes within the organization we now have to deal with Courtenay, Nanaimo and Victoria. The fellow from Courtenay came across this morning to pick up equipment from the shed (I’ve told you/complained about the shed before) and there was no one to let him in. I told her that he would have to wait until ten when the volunteer shift starts and her reply was that he had already been waiting twenty minutes. I don’t think I used my polite voice when I asked why anyone thought our volunteers would show up 45 minutes early! I then told her I wasn’t sure if the volunteer on hand would be able to open the shed. There was a spare on this morning, but I wasn’t sure who and if it was one of the newer volunteers I don’t think they would be able to help him. You need a swipe card to get through the security doors and when she asked if someone in the hospital could arrange that for him I told her she needed to deal with the hospital.
All that on one of the few days that I took my shift off. We have lots of new volunteers that need the time and experience so I didn’t feel a bit guilty giving one of them my shift. The spare I arranged for my shift this afternoon managed to lock herself out of the computer; when she called I was nice, but told her she would have to call the support line to have it reset.
When I checked into Facebook a few minutes ago I see the library committee met this morning; I didn’t get an invite. I’m not sure if I should be glad (I’m trying to be) or annoyed.
I think it is a good thing I’m getting a short vacation.
