The View from Here

Author: Brian Keith Jackson

The View from HereLast fall while I waited for the doors of the hall to open for the craft sale I picked this book up from the shelves at the Senior Centre. I had time for only a few pages, but I knew it would be a good one. When I finally picked it up again I started from the beginning; I’m glad I did because in my mind I had confused it with another story.

The story is told in the voice of an unborn child. Her father is not happy about her expected arrival and decides they will give the baby to his sister when “he” is born. Although the mother isn’t happy about this she is at a loss to decide how to handle the situation. After the death of her best friend, she finds the strength to confront her husband and sister-in-law.

The book is an easy read, and I was surprised that it is written by a man.
