Mini quilting

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Today was the first session of our miniature quilting group (Minny Meez), a splinter group from the Guild. I think most of us expected a very informal session but it seems some are taking the whole idea very seriously. Although a pattern had been circulated I found some three and four-inch classic blocks that I will put into a small sampler. I’m using this as a chance to practice some hand piecing and quilting, although the quilting part will be in the distant future.

I had four blocks cut out to work on but before I got to them I had a couple of cards that needed to have the binding stitched down. Even with a rather long meeting (regarding miniatures) I had them done by lunch.

After lunch I started on my miniatures. The hand piecing was easier than I thought it would be, although I can see that I will have to be careful to match the thread colour to the fabric colour. I still worry that they will fall apart!

We are going out for dinner tonight since Pat is taking a vocal workshop tomorrow afternoon and we have a concert in the evening. It’s always a good thing when you can make a birthday last over a few days!
