It was one of those days

I mentioned yesterday that I needed tape to finalize the package I was sending to Christy for Taylor’s birthday. I decided overnight that waiting an extra day might mean the present wouldn’t arrive on time; Canadian Tire opens early so I decided I would stop there for the tape, stop at the Post Office and mail the parcel and still be at the bee on time. I was out the door early but when I noticed our neighbour on her way home from dropping her daughter at school we started chatting. By the time we had caught up with each other I was later than normal leaving.

Off to Canadian Tire next. I pulled into the lot, reached for my purse … wait a minute, where was my purse? I clearly remembered that when I loaded the car I set my purse on the drier and then I walked out the door with the parcel and left my purse behind. I really wanted the parcel in the mail so I turned around and came home for my purse. I was back in the car and backing out of the driveway when I realized I didn’t have my camera; the Guild blog needs photos. Fortunately it was a quick trip back into the house to pick it up. I was almost out the door when Pat noticed the batteries for the camera were still in the charger! Finally, I was on my way for good.

Taylor’s package got into the mail, and hopefully it holds together for the short trip to Maple Ridge. Packing and taping a box in the front seat of the car didn’t produce my best work. Yesterday when I was at the Post Office it was busy, busy, busy but this morning all the clerks were waiting for customers to arrive. I was in and out in no time, but it was almost 9:30 before I was on my way; the ladies at the bee would be thinking I wasn’t coming.

After greeting everyone and explaining why I wouldn’t be using my regular table today (I was cutting, not sewing) I got unpacked. Several others had their Mystery Quilt fabric on hand so the instructor (Kathleen) could help decide whether or not we had enough contrast. Mine passed the test. First up though I wanted to work on the card for Will. I had only two pieces of appliqué cut out when I realized that the letters all needed to be reversed. So much for that plan.

On to my second project – cutting out my Mystery Quilt. I was well into cutting when I heard someone mention March for the class. How did I get it into my head that the weekend was in January? I know how; I wanted to get the fabric when Lainey had her end-of-the-year sale and I guess because I am seldom that far ahead on anything I decided the Mystery Quilt weekend was sooner rather than later. I managed to get all the pieces cut so now I’m ahead of the game! Probably a good thing as the Mystery Quilt weekend follows closely on the heels of the quilt show and I know I won’t be feeling very productive by the time it is over.

I had one other project I could have worked on after lunch but I needed to stop at Lainey’s for some thread so I made it an early day. I still have the Guild blog to get done and, by the time I’m done that, I may still have time to reverse those letters before supper. I’ve started a lovely new knitting project (not socks) and I’m finding it very relaxing in the evenings.
