I’m a fan of this author and, while I enjoyed the story, it doesn’t live up to Midwives. The story takes place in Italy and mentions many areas and places that I saw when I was there. The story bounces between 1943 (when the Germans occupy Italy) and 1955 but there is no confusion between the characters and times.
