The party’s over

Before we headed up to the Fall Fair, I got a start on some of the chores that need to be done before the House Concert on Tuesday. It wasn’t much, but I got one of the beds made, the towels changed out in the guest bathroom and my birthday card and gift collection put away. Pat needed to be at the site earlier than I would have gone on my own, but by going with him I avoided paying the entry fee and we got a parking spot right on the grounds.

We stayed at the Fall Fair longer than we thought we would. I had hoped to get into one of the Exhibit Halls early so I could get my Guild photos taken before Pat started playing. I wandered around and around and around the site, but the doors didn’t open until noon (when Pat started playing). There were lots of places that had coffee and food, but I didn’t spend much time stopping to look at anything. I stopped by the Friends of the Library display and bought Slammerkin, by Emma Donoghue. I also picked up a form to join the Friends of the Library. Do I have time for another volunteer group?

The displays in the judged categories were very slim. There were some nice quilts, but most of them were donated by the Guild ladies when they realized there weren’t enough entries to decorate the hall. The quilts were displayed nicely, but there was no way to see who made them – even for the prize winners. The Guild was sponsoring some of the prizes but I wasn’t even able to find the quilt that won first prize. Pat won an honourable mention for his dahlias.

I made it back to the music area for most of Pat’s set. There were lots of familiar faces wandering around and there was lots of visiting. The trip through the barns took more time than my trip through the craft hall – lots of fowl, rabbits, and goats. There was a nice looking alpaca with an eleven-day old baby but she didn’t take too kindly to photos. We decided to have lunch at the fair and wait to hear a friend of ours play his set.

Once we were home I got down to some serious work. I washed down the windowsills and dusted the blinds. I moved out the coffee tables and did the dusting. The vacuuming is done, including the rugs from the back step that we put down to protect the floor. There is still lots left to do though but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

If I were really worried about the cleaning I’d wash the floor tonight, but I’m going to have my dinner and relax for the evening.
