All week I’d been thinking about the Texada Island Art Studio tour this weekend and debated whether or not I should go. I decided I wasn’t going to bother, mainly because of the cost of the ferry, as all I really wanted to see was the show by the Texada Quilters Guild and the Texada Needlework Guild. But last night at the market I was talking to our Guild president and she said she has attended lots of small quilt shows and Texada was, by far, the best she had seen. So when I got home I e-mailed Carola to see if she wanted to go across with me.
Carola usually works on Saturday but she has quite a fluid schedule and she sent a message to her boss to see if she could have the day off. I went to bed last night not knowing whether we were going today, tomorrow or not at all. When I checked this morning she had the day off so we were set to go on the 9:30 ferry. At the last minute I decided to invite another quilter to go along with us; I don’t see Shirley much except for Guild meetings but we have had coffee together a few times. Even though she had less than an hour to get ready, she was game to go for the day. When we got down to the ferry terminal we saw at least four other carloads of quilters.
We started the tours with the quilt and needlework show; everything was gorgeous. I was surprised at how many of our Timberlane Quilters are also members of the Texada Guild. That will all change next season though because the changes to the ferries mean the quilters can’t get over and back on meeting nights. One quilter had two hexagon quilts in the show; one was shown in our last Timberlane show but the other was new to me. The latest one was done with small hexes (smaller than my Blossom hexies) but the quilt was decorated with beads and cute buttons – something to keep in mind for some of my hexie projects. We saw a couple of pottery studios, a painting and sculpture studio, a glass-fusing studio and a woman who does hand piecing and quilting from her home studio.
We had lunch in the shade at Shelter Point Park, and I could gladly have spent the rest of the afternoon there. We didn’t have a chance to see all the studios because we needed to be back to the ferry line-up for the 3:35 ferry home.
So no journal covers today. I’m exhausted, but I’m going to blame it on the heat!
