I need to take two yellow star blocks to the Guild’s wind-up party next month; one with a light blue background and one with a dark blue background. I often use an online site to find patterns, and I noticed only recently that you can sort their patterns by block size. Several days ago I picked out a pattern and today I had time to stitch it.
The star was made using a paper-piecing method, and after a solid week of hardly anything but paper-piecing I knew what I was doing. The square went together well and I really liked the pattern. Image my surprise when I went to square it up and found that it was an inch short of the size I needed. I went back to the pattern site and they say the block will be 9″ finished, meaning a 9.5″ block unfinished. Clearly the pattern should have been in the 8″ listing.
Fortunately I still have lots of time to make another block, but unfortunately I don’t think I have enough of the dark blue fabric I was using. I guess I didn’t completely waste my time as I can use the block for an extra-large birthday card for someone!
