It was such a beautiful morning that getting the recycling to the curb was a treat. I wasn’t ready to come inside when that was done so I composted (and recycled) a few more bags of coffee pods that have been accumulating over the winter. I had a lovely long chat with Diane while I sat on the deck, but then I decided it was time to get some work done. I wasn’t really ready to settle in for some sewing, so I emptied out the drawers in the bench in the kids room upstairs. Pat can make better use of the bench and the drawers than I had been, and I love the open space by the window. I have my cutting table set up in front of it for now, because I had some cutting to do today and I couldn’t resist standing in the breeze coming through the window.
I started my trip with a few days in Calgary. Elizabeth has such a busy house at the best of times, but she had both me and Ray’s step dad visiting at the same time. Everyone is growing like crazy, and busy, and I didn’t manage a photo of everyone together. It was good to see Dylan a couple of times even though he now has his own apartment.
My quilting week in Panorama was so much fun, and I accomplished quite a lot. Before we started sewing I gave these quilting goddesses to Stacia and Deloise. I was way out of my comfort zone making these, but I think they appreciated the effort. The brooches on the sweaters were from Mum’s jewellery box and I was happy that they both recognized them as such. The beads were also part of a necklace of Mum’s.
Stacia, Deloise and I worked on several identical projects. My big finish was the Hubble flimsy made from my 30’s Reproduction fabrics. It will be a big job to get it quilted, but I hope to have it done for the quilt show next Spring. We all used the same pattern for another project – I made a rug, but Stacia and Deloise made table runners. My rug was intended for the floor in front of the sink, but when Kathryn saw it she wanted it. I had to admit that it suited her cupboard colours much better than mine, and it was a bit of weight I didn’t need to bring home.
Our weekend at the farm was a wonderful mixture of reminiscences and updates on our families. While we were at Panorama we tied one of Mum’s quilt tops and presented it to Roberta in memory of Lynne. It was a fun weekend, despite the idiosyncrasies of a 100+ year old farmhouse.
After the weekend at the farm I was on to Saskatoon. I had saved my Wonky Stars quilt so I could present it to Alex in person. It was a treat to see both Kathryn and Alex curled up under their quilts while we watched TV.
