Short Shift

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Because I did all my paperwork yesterday, I was able to fit in a bit of free-motion quilting before I left for my Red Cross shift. Other Guild members are always saying we should use our Community Quilts to practice our techniques. Up to now my patterns have allowed me to steer clear of having to match points or make good corners. The quilt I’m doing now is no exception, although I am choosing to practice a new free-motion pattern. I can see improvement from my first few designs to where I am now, but I am far from perfect. I think I’ll be using this pattern on a few more projects before moving on to the next pattern in my book.

As I was getting ready for my Red Cross shift I was remembering the days (way back when we didn’t have a computer) when I would take my book along just in case it wasn’t busy. I had a very quiet shift today and was caught up with everything by the time my shift was over. So with the extra time I gained in the afternoon I did some grocery shopping.

And because I did that quilting this morning I don’t feel one bit guilty about sitting and finishing my jigsaw puzzle (on my iPad) and perhaps even playing a round or two of Candy Crush Saga. No, I haven’t purchased any more levels; Christy showed me how to play extra games to unlock the next level!
