I loaded Pearl2 this morning and headed off to the bee. I haven’t even had Pearl2 powered on since before my last trip to Saskatoon. I have two projects that need to be done by early in December so it didn’t take me long to decide what I should take. How I would take it didn’t work out quite the way I had hoped though.
Several of the ladies bring their work in wicker baskets and I really like that idea. I often need to take rulers and tools and a bag is more useful, but I thought today I could get away with a basket. My projects fit into the basket just fine, and my cutting board and the few tools I needed went into my sewing machine case. But when I was getting ready to go out the door this morning there were a few things I had forgotten and that needed to be added in. My lunch for one, which also includes a cup for my coffee. I needed one of my rulers that I’d neglected to include, and a case of my thread and needles was required. So, by the time I went out the door, my wicker basket had been put inside a big bag with all the rest of my stuff!
The Guild is making Christmas placemats for the Meals on Wheels clients. Of all the Christmassy things I made for the sale, placemats weren’t one of them. The pattern I chose is one that I made before so it didn’t take me long to get the top done. Several of the members were making this same pattern, but with all the different fabric they all look different. Some of the ladies were using the envelope technique rather than quilting and binding their placemats. Using the envelope method would probably be faster, but I’m not sure I’d like the finished product as well.
My second “need to do” was my block for the pizza box. The theme of the box is “In the Garden” so I decided to brush up on my English paper piecing skills and make a few flowers. What fun that was. I have two flowers basted, and another one cut. The leaves are also cut. This will all be hand stitching until they go on the background and I find it very relaxing.
I had intended to go to the community meeting tonight to hear what residents had to say about the ferry schedule changes. I’m pretty sure I know what everyone thinks, but it might have be fun to see the action myself. As often happens though, once I have settled into the house and it is dark outside, I really don’t want to leave!
