Was that really necessary?

When I first woke this morning I hoped to be able to sleep a little longer. I didn’t even open my eyes to see what time it was because that’s always a factor in whether or not I should get up. Almost immediately, the ferry terminal started pounding their pilings so I knew it must be after eight. My clock read only 7:56 but I guess it could be slow. The pounding continued for about 15 minutes, took a very short break, and pounded for about ten more minutes. And that seems to be it for the day. Why couldn’t they have delayed that little bit of work until later in the day?

We enjoyed the movie Still Mine last night; I gave it 8 out of 10 stars. Genevieve Bujold was excellent, as was James Cromwell, but I thought James appeared too young to play an 87 year old man. The film is based on the true story of a New Brunswick farmer who battles City Hall while building a new, more-accessible home to accommodate his wife as she slips into dementia. Pat and I had a little chuckle when one scene showed the clothes on her line with obvious bleach spots; I had a recent bleach issue myself but I’m blaming my old washing machine!

I started work on Pat’s accounts this morning. The end of August is his year end and also a GST reporting month. I got a good chunk of it done before leaving for my Red Cross shift, and I finished up the GST portion of the accounts this afternoon.

There was a small pile of Red Cross equipment waiting for my attention today. I sent the list off to Courtenay as soon as I arrived, but I never heard anything back so the pile is still sitting there. It was busier with clients than it has been for awhile; I guess the surgeons are back from summer vacations.
