I was on duty for BOND today. We planned a beach day and the weather could not have been better. We had a picnic table in the shade and spread our blankets under the trees and a few in the sun for those who wanted it. It was a “bring your toddler” day so there were more kids around than babies. We were far enough away from the water that we didn’t have to worry too much, and we were close enough to the spray park for anyone who felt like cooling off.
I always think that beach days are going to be easier than they actually turn out to be. The coordinators ordered pizza, but I still had to shop for and prepare the fruit and veggie trays. It was nice to do the prep in my own kitchen though – so much more space. Once the veggies and fruit were washed, cut and packed up I headed out to pick up the pizzas. It is a long haul from the parking lot to the beach so I had to make a couple of trips, but one of the coordinator’s helped me.
Once the picnic was over everything had to be packed away and carried back to the parking lot. There were a couple of coolers, various bags, and my two big grocery bags but I was determined to haul it up in one trip. We made it, in spite of the fact that the coordinators both thought we should do it in two trips. They were comfortable with their loads and I carried both the coolers. I had one in each hand and used my hip and leg to keep the lids closed. I took a short break halfway up the hill just to change hands. Because I used my own containers for the food I still have a lot of washing up to do, but no rush.
Once I got home I watered the plants on the back deck. Pat is generally in charge of the watering but he is teaching in Vancouver this week so it was up to me. Knowing it needed to be done, I stopped at Canadian Tire this morning and bought a big watering can. I don’t mind using the hose for some of the things, but I can’t seem to get the hanging baskets watered without a waterfall running down my arm! I’ll do the front yard when the sun has lost some of its heat.
