As I waited for my ride to the Guild meeting last night I realized that the meeting would be my last at the Membership table – no sad face here! When the issue of nominations for committees and the executive came up at the meeting I made it clear that this committee (of one) had served her two years and would not be continuing. During the break I managed to find some others who were willing to take over. I planned to call the head of the Nominating Committee to let her know, but before I had a chance to make that call she phoned me.
Kathy wanted to know if I would be interested in putting my name forward as President. I gave her all the reasons I wouldn’t and made some suggestions as to who might be interested. Then she asked if I’d take over the Library duties. I thought about it for a few minutes but when I realized it was another “committee of one” I declined. Again I gave her some other people she might contact and suggested there be at least two people. Finally she asked what I would like to do, and I felt I had to volunteer for something. I’ve agree to go on the Planning Committee as a “worker bee” and not as the head of the committee. I’m sure the request to have me as President was just a ploy to get me to accept something else, so maybe I was fooled after all!
I have everything packed for our Community Quilt weekend. I’ll be working on my 10″ square project. I counted my blocks and I need to make about a dozen more before it can go together. All but one of the blocks are cut so I’m hoping to finish the top over the weekend. The Guild will supply backing and batting, and even extra fabric if I need it.
I spent the afternoon putting together a few more cards. It seems every month there are more and more occasions to celebrate. I enjoy these little projects, and it is good paper-piecing practice for my Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt and an advent Calendar I’d like to do.
I started a new book last night – Something Fierce – which means I finished The Mammoth Hunters. The Community Radio station and the Library have started an on-air book club and Something Fierce was their first pick. I was supposed to have finished it by last night, but fortunately they podcast the discussion so I can listen whenever I’m done.
