When I put my “new” books away last night I noticed how far the line of unread books extends in my closet. I am also aware that my bedside table is full of books waiting to be read, and don’t even ask me about the book shelves all over the house that hold books I really want to read. And then there is my Good Reads list of books.
I’ve been reading two books at a time over the past months – one on my iPad and one a traditional book. As I wait to leave for somewhere, or as I wait for something to start, I read a few pages on my iPad. I almost always read at least one chapter of my “real” book in bed before I turn the light off for the day. I don’t feel like I’m making much progress on either of those books though.
Pat is mentoring a friend on project management and I’ve been paying attention to his end of the conversation. One of his points is that if you want to get something done you have to make it part of your schedule. That, along with other things I’d read, led me to start my monthly goals list which has really helped keep me focused on my stitching projects.
So, I’ve rearrange my ever-fluid schedule and I’ll make Thursday my reading day. I’m also going back to reading one book at a time. I applied this new idea this morning and made great progress on my iPad book.
You would think that after coming to this new decision I’d have remembered to take my iPad to my Red Cross shift but I didn’t. I was stuck browsing old (very old) Reader’s Digest magazines during the quiet times!
