I said to Pat this morning that I felt like I hadn’t accomplished much this week and my mind was made up to get something done with this last day of quilting for the week (except for the two days of classes this weekend). I was looking forward to doing the next set of Craftsy Blocks of the Month. I’m behind by almost a year, but I was looking forward to the next lesson that would teach me how to do Dresden Plates.
When I loaded my video I was disappointed to see that next up was the June 2012 lesson and the Dresden Plate block isn’t until July. The June blocks were simple, but I still learn something from each lesson. Today’s method used scant quarter-inch seams. I didn’t do so well on my first piece and it finished a bit smaller than it should have. For the second piece, I perfected the scant seam and I trimmed every time I stitched two pieces together. The second piece is right on for the correct size.
So now that I had two 12 ½ inch blocks done, what would I use them for? The Guild Placemat Challenge was the perfect thing as they need to measure 12 inches by 18 inches finished (which is 12 ½ inches by 18 ½ inches unfinished). I added borders on two sides of the blocks and bingo, they’re done. The fabrics are from two of the fat quarters that Diane gave me in my Advent Bag at Christmas.
It is time to quilt them but what pattern will I use? I could open the new book I purchased, but this might be a good opportunity to take another one of my Craftsy classes, free-motion quilting with Leah Day. I loaded the video and surprise – the piece she uses as her sampler is the 2012 Blocks of the Month that I’ve been doing. How perfect is that!
