Only one day left until I have to answer to my monthly project list. I know that I’ve completed almost everything on that list, but I also know there are two quilting projects that need to get finished before tomorrow.

Yesterday I started the straight-line stitching I use to stabilize the two table toppers I’m working on. When I first start, I’m never entirely certain what pattern I will use to quilt anything – I always hope some sort of design idea will strike as I do the first steps.

I need to practice my free-motion quilting, and these smaller projects are the perfect place for that. The pieces aren’t meant for anyone so if they don’t turn out it is only myself who gets to see them. I did some outlining on the first project and, before starting the free-motion on it, I set it aside to finish the straight-line stitching on the second project.

I’ve spent all day on that second project and I decided not to use any free-motion quilting on the piece except for the border. I ‘d like to think I did this because the design I chose suited the piece better, but I also have to admit that it might have been because I lacked the confidence to do the free-motion stitching.

I can’t put it off any longer though if I’m going to finish by tomorrow. I’ll reconfigure my machine and just do it!
