Remembering Margaret

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Margaret’s family held a service in her honour this afternoon. There were only a few people outside of family in attendance, but it was a nice tribute. The memorial card, designed by one of her nieces, had background images of some of Margaret’s favourite Powell River spots. Those images included Texada Island and Willingdon Beach where her ashes will be scattered later this week.

This poem from the memorial card seemed so appropriate to Margaret and the way she lived her life.

You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be full of the love that you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her only that she is gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind … be empty and turn your back … or you can do what she’d want; smile, open your eyes and go on.

Everyone leaves footprints in your memory but the ones that leave footprints in your heart are the ones you will truly remember.
