I like paper

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

I finished up my stitching and knitting last night so I was busy first thing this morning getting parcels wrapped. They were delivered to the Post Office by mid-morning.

Although I had a full day at home, which usually means I’ll get busy with Ruby and some quilting, I decided to set up Pearl (thanks to Elizabeth for my “old” machine name) and work on some cards. After a full year of my postcard-sized birthday cards I wanted a change. I’ve been collecting block patterns for several months and pulled out a few to use as cards.

These blocks were all paper pieced. I don’t know if it was because paper piecing was the technique taught in my first quilting class, but I really enjoy it. Yes, it is fiddly and wastes fabric but I can make shapes with paper piecing that I never could with traditional piecing. The bonus with these blocks is that they fit into a smaller envelope for mailing. When I get back to my Farmer’s Wife quilt blocks after the quilt show I’m going to use paper piecing so this is good practice.

After lunch I finished up the cards, did some photographs and added a few project sheets to my quilting book. I’m going to get back to another Valentine project this evening.
