A nice break

Today was my first Guild bee since the New Year. Before the Christmas break we jokingly discussed meeting on New Year’s Day (many of us were available) but decided it may be taking things too far. Last Tuesday was Soup and Sandwich day at the Center, and I decided to sew at home instead of joining the ladies at our alternate location. Today was Project Tuesday and we were getting ready for Valentine’s Day with two different wall hangings.

I went through my fabric last night and pulled enough to make the heart wall hanging. For some reason just before I left this morning I decided I should also take material for the alternate hanging – the birds.

I didn’t pre-cut any of my fabric so from the get-go I was a little behind. Much to my dismay the cutting board and ruler that I usually store in my sewing machine case weren’t there. I haven’t confirmed this, but I think I took them out and put them in my new ruler bag and then neglected to take that bag with me. We keep a cutting board at the Center and I was able to borrow the rulers I needed to cut the fabric and backing for the heart piece.

I did the tracing, cutting and placement for both projects before lunch. In my rush this morning I hadn’t picked up any backing fabric or batting for the second piece so I couldn’t take it any further. After lunch I quilted the hearts and before the end of the afternoon I had the binding in place (but not hand stitched down).

I enjoyed working on something new, but I’m going back to my flowers now.
