To support small businesses in Powell River someone organized a Cash Mob group. Every month at least some of the members of the group enter a shop en masse. Each person pledges to spend a minimum of $20 in the store. I’ve been a member for a few months, but today is the first time I’ve been able to attend their event.
Today’s business was The Creative Rift, an artisan’s co-op just down the hill and around the corner from home. I had birthday presents on my mind and I didn’t come home disappointed. I met up with our friend Deb at the mob and we stopped for coffee after we shopped. Then I popped over to the used book store. They had used CDs on special – buy one get one free. I picked up a couple of Christmas discs.
For many years Diane and I traded an Advent Calendar back and forth. When she moved (or maybe before) we abandoned the idea, but early in November I received a parcel from her with a bag marked Advent Calendar. I put my hand in the bag this afternoon and pulled out this lovely piece of fabric. I expected wrapped gifts so I peeked inside to see if something had come undone, but I think the whole bag is full of fabric. I’ll pick one each afternoon when I stop for my coffee.
Pat and I are going out for dinner and then we are off to see the new Bond movie.
