I had a busy day planned so I didn’t get up early this morning. Just as I was settling in to knit, the Red Cross volunteer for the morning shift called to say she was at the office but was having chest pains and wondered if I could come in early. After my experience with Margaret I wasted no time getting to the hospital. All the way there I hoped I wouldn’t find Maureen on the floor or slumped over the desk. She went off to Emergency and I worked a four-hour shift. It was busy all day so the time went quickly.
After my shift I had a visit with Margaret. She is in the first bed as you enter the ward but she has a mirror that she can see into and she keeps pretty good tabs on the three others in the room. She doesn’t have her hearing aids with her so she chats rather loudly and tells me all the troubles everyone else is having. I hope all the other patients are as hard of hearing as she is!
During our chat we were talking about bus trips. She and a friend took many summer vacation trips out of Winnipeg by bus (New York in 1950 was one of their destinations). While we chatted she told me she always sat up front with the driver “because they like to have someone to talk to”. I chuckled a bit (to myself) when I heard that.
Tonight was a Guild demo and the Program Committee were showing a few “quick and easy” Christmas projects. I came home with a few ideas but I’m not sure I will have time to do any of them. The main reason for going was to get my supply list for a class I’m taking on Saturday. Next week is our Project Day at the bee so I also needed to find out the fabric requirements for what we’ll be making. I’m anticipating a trip to the fabric store tomorrow!
