Today was a bee day, but not just an ordinary bee day. There was to be a surprise guest in the house, we were having a potluck lunch, and we were working on our first group project for the year.
During the summer we decided it would be fun, once a month, to work on a project together at our Tuesday sessions. One of our best quilters is always making seasonal wall hangings either for herself or her daughter, so she volunteered to share some of her patterns and her teaching skills. Today we had a chance to make a pumpkin, a black cat, or a spider – I made the pumpkin but I also took the pattern for the black cat. The project was meant to be done in the one session, but I had to leave early so I didn’t get mine finished. Not to say had I stayed late it would have been done though!
Our surprise guest, Sharon Pederson, is a friend of several of our quilters and lives across the water in the Comox Valley. Sharon is the published author of about five quilting books. She is a lovely woman and, although she wasn’t teaching anything or participating in the project, we all enjoyed chatting with her.
Our potluck lunch was amazing – so many good dishes to choose from. We’ve decided that every group project day we will share a potluck lunch. We’ve been challenged to bring gluten-free dishes to the next one.
I went straight from the sewing bee to my knitting class. After last week’s less than spectacular start I wasn’t sure if I was looking forward to the class or not. Yesterday morning I got the stitches I needed cast on, but when I woke up this morning I realized I had put the second set of stitches on the wrong end of the circular needle. I had to fix that before I even got started on the next step. I’m making good progress now, and I’m looking forward to the “after-thought heel”!
