She’s a beauty

We had another early start to the day, but I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my time. I keep all my scraps of fabric in a big wicker basket and, occasionally, I take a few of the pieces out and cut them into squares, bars and strips. If there is still enough fabric to be useful it will end up in my string bin. I got quite a bit done, but the basket looks as full as ever. It must be true that fabric scraps multiply when you aren’t looking.

I had another physio treatment this morning. I thought my elbow was getting better, but the physiotherapist has no problem hitting the spots that leave me flinching. I’ve got a new exercise to do and at least one more appointment. I don’t understand why my condition doesn’t deserve some heat or vibrating treatment – I’m sure neither of those would hurt.

Margaret had an appointment just before lunch and when she was done we went for coffee. She thinks she is getting very close to the top of the list for the Assisted Living place. Once she is at the top of the list she needs to have another assessment. Her case worker called to say she will be on vacation for three weeks so it might be someone else coming to do the assessment. Margaret is very excited about getting in, and I hope she gets moved while the weather is still good. I know she has been busy cleaning out drawers and cupboards – whenever I see her she brings me some new “old” photo she has found.

Today she brought a postcard of Yellowknife from about 1940.; her brother and father both worked there for a time and her father spent 25 years with NCPC. Margaret was offered a job at the bank in Yellowknife but she decided not to take it because that would have left her Mum alone in Winnipeg. It was odd to see Old Town as a bustling main street and just the bare hill where the main part of the city is today.

When I got home I did a bit of housework. I must remember next time I go to physio to ask if there is a special way I should be doing the vacuuming and scrubbing because those motions bother me the most. In reality I’ll be hoping he says I need to hire someone to do it for me. Pat helped me out by finding his old wrist brace and suggesting I wear it while I’m cleaning!

Before I had finished my work my sewing machine arrived. The sewing table that comes with it was shipped separately and hasn’t arrived yet. I had to spend some time cleaning up my fabric scraps before I could get her out of the box and set up on my desk. I spent until supper sorting through all the attachments and watching the DVD that was included on how I’m supposed to use it.

Best surprises so far? It will sew without having to use a foot pedal, it has a blanket stitch, it has a satin stitch, it has a huge throat and it comes with a very large extension table. If I ever get the courage to turn it on I’m sure I will love it!
