After delaying as long as possible I finally headed up to my studio to tackle my sewing issues. I still didn’t have any luck and some online research said it was probably the timing on the machine. They also said that the timing is expensive to fix. I spent $75 (the minimum) to have the technician look at the machine earlier this year, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend that much again (and possibly more) on a machine that cost me less than $100 when I bought it new.
I went downstairs and told Pat that I thought it was time for a new machine. He smiled and told me that he was planning to buy me one for my birthday. We did a bit of online research and Pat made a phone call. I asked a few questions and just like that – I’m going from a bottom-end machine to a very high-end machine!
I spent the rest of the morning rearranging my studio. I’m not sure how the new machine will fit in, but it comes with its own table so I probably won’t need to have my sewing machine on my desktop. It seems like my studio is a lot bigger now but this new space may disappear once my machine arrives.
I spent most of the afternoon on Guild business. I had to balance the money I collected last night with the receipts I made out and the members that I signed up. I tried to do it at the meeting last night but there was just too much going on and I needed some quiet. I made up the new membership list and passed the new members and address changes on to the women who do the telephoning and the e-mailing. I also set up the new Facebook group for the Guild, although it is sadly lacking in content and members at the moment.
Pat asked me if I was going to have to stop sewing while I waited on my new machine. It seemed fitting that I was able to tell him this space of time would give me an opportunity to do some work on his applique blocks. I did the trimming on one of the blocks before dinner. I think we have a couple of TV shows to watch tonight so I’ll take my scissors downstairs and continue trimming the other four blocks.
