Keep your hands down

I thought this was going to be a day full of stitching, but it didn’t work out that way. I’m not complaining though – we had some fun and I still got in a bit of sewing.

I was eating breakfast when Pat reminded me that our friends, Geoff and Brenda, were having a yard sale today. It was actually a sale to raise money for Brenda’s paddling club so it was more than just their stuff. As soon as breakfast was done we jumped in the car and headed off to Cranberry. Everything was for sale by donation – do you think you end up giving more when it is a donation than when it is priced? But pricing is such a hassle I can understand why they went the donation route.

I picked up a big roll of tissue paper. It may have been intended as shelf liner, but I’ll use it for paper piecing when I’m quilting. There is more than I need though so I’ll take the roll to the Guild and share with anyone who wants to use it. Pat picked out a lamp and a plant, and we bought three chairs. We thought the chairs, even though they don’t match, would be good to have for our House Concerts.

From the yard sale we went directly to the garden center. They were having an auction, and it seemed everything was up for grabs. There were a lot of bargains to be had if you were looking for fruit trees and certain plants. Pat was interested in some of the more exotic trees and pots to put them in. We came home with two trees and four pots – well actually we didn’t come home with them; they will be delivered. The auction went on for about two hours and after that it was more like “make me an offer”. We understand from what we heard that what didn’t go at the auction will be for sale at an upcoming Garage Sale.

I spent the afternoon in the studio. September is a busy month for birthdays so I worked on a few cards. I recently bought a new quilting book with a gift certificate (thanks Christy) and I had already picked out a pattern I wanted to try. I cut out the pieces for two projects. Just what I need – more projects! I spent a bit of time cutting up the fabric in my scrap basket. I’ll be glad when our next Community Quilt weekend comes along so I can donate some of the squares and strings that I’ve been collecting.

Pat made a wonderful pasta sauce for dinner and I just happened to have a bottle of wine in the fridge. I’m enjoying a second glass as I write this.
