The Filberg – 2012

Friday, August 3, 2012

This was the 30th anniversary of the festival, but only our third visit. We usually look at the musical line-up and decide which day to go based on who is playing. When we first looked at the line-up there wasn’t anyone I wanted to see, so I decided not to go. Along with the music though is an incredible juried art show and, in the past, I’ve come home feeling I haven’t really had a chance to explore that part of the festival. So this year I decided to make the art show my focus.

There are over 100 artisans so there was a lot to see. Many of the booths displayed jewellery and pottery – all of it very nice, but not really my interest. We came home with a new piece of metal sculpture and I couldn’t resist a block of dark chocolate with ginger. There were quite of few booths of clothing, and we were happy to see that some of our favorite vendors from past years were still part of the festival.

This is the first year that I toured the Filberg Lodge – what a lovely home it would have been in its time. There was a beautiful quilt displayed on one of the walls, and there were some ladies doing some quilting in one of the many rooms of the house.

When I had seen all the booths at least a couple of times, I found a quiet bench in the shade and spent some time people-watching and reading my book. I did stop to see one concert this afternoon.
