Ladies who lunch

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Some of the Tuesday quilting bee ladies took a field trip today to Texada Island. Seven of us met for the 11:10 ferry, and we were able to ride in one vehicle.

We had a lunch reservation at the Ravenous Raven and Barb, who lives on Texada, pointed out many spots of interest on the drive. The talk at the lunch table centered mainly around, but was not limited to, the Guild quilting retreats that are held on Texada every spring and fall.

After a leisurely (and delicious) lunch Barb gave us a guided tour of Gillies Bay, including Shelter Point Park. A highlight of the trip back to Van Anda and Blubber Bay was a stop at the quarry. I’ve heard many people talk about swimming in the quarry and it was lovely to have a chance to see it even if we didn’t come prepared to swim!

We had a tour of Van Anda before heading back to Barb’s home in Blubber Bay. She had promised us a tour of her studio. The big surprise for me is that it was much smaller than I envisioned. Barb is a prolific quilter, but she has less space than I do. And you should see her stash – she could open a fabric shop if she ever wanted to part with any of it. She also has a beautiful collection of cross stitch pictures – some that she has done herself and some that were gifts.

We headed home on the 5:00 ferry so it was a full day. I think I’m going to curl up with my book tonight.
