I was ready to quilt this morning but I took a few minutes to clean up some of the mess I created during the piecing phase of the project. I’ve been home less than a week – how could I make that much mess in so little time?
I studied my cookie tin flimsy from several angles before deciding that a straight line stitch would probably be my best bet. Actually at this stage it is my only bet as I just can’t seem to make the free motion quilting work for me. I had one block that I wanted to do some stippling on, but after breaking two needles (and not having so much as an inch of useable stitches) I gave up and went for an echo effect around the appliqué block.
I think I’ll see if the woman who taught the free motion class will give me some one-on-one help. If the problem is me she can probably sort me out. If it is a machine issue, her husband is the authorized repairman in town.
I took Pat out for lunch in honor of Father’s Day. We sat on the deck of the restaurant looking across Georgia Strait. The clouds came and went but we were dry. We were only a short ways out of the parking lot on our way home when the rain started so we were lucky.
The quilting eventually was finished and I had time before dinner to get the sleeve, binding and label ready for hand stitching. After picking fabric at the shop yesterday I decided to use the backing material for the binding (so now I have a nice addition to my stash). The piece was originally slated as a cover for the washing machine, but now that it is done I like it better and it has been elevated to a cover for the table on the deck.
I had one final chore to do before I left the studio and that was to write my first blog entry for the Guild. Why did I take on this task? What was I thinking?
I’m cooking for BOND tomorrow so I’d better start checking some recipes.
