It was time to make some decisions about how I would quilt the borders on my Sudoku quilt. I had a wonderful pattern in mind for some free-motion quilting. However, after breaking my third needle and not even getting off my practice piece, I changed my mind and went back to straight lines. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I’ll have to do some research when I have more time. I’m trying hard to convince myself that it is the machine and not me, but I was able to free-motion quilt a card not too long ago so that goes against blaming the machine. Anyway, my justification is that the piece has so many squares that (almost) straight-line quilting really suits it.
Margaret didn’t come with me for our Red Cross shift so I tucked my book into my purse just in case I wasn’t busy. Except for a couple of Auxiliary members popping in I didn’t have any clients. Without Margaret there to chat I had to be careful that I didn’t nod off in the chair. I had only a few pages left when I got home so I finished my book while I had coffee.
Pat and I were off in different directions tonight. He, along with Trent and Shaun, is playing out at the Savoury Bight restaurant. I had a Guild meeting at the other end of town.
After a very brief business meeting the instructor for the weekend classes, Lynne Fanthorpe, put on a Trunk Show. A trunk show is like a mini quilt show of pieces from one person, although she had a quilt that was done by her Mum in 1935. There were some absolutely stunning pieces, including two miniature quilts done with ¼” hexies. Yes, you read that right – one-quarter of an inch! After having just learned how to do hexies on a much larger scale I was amazed. She had a story to go along with every quilt. I’m not taking any of her classes, but I am hostess for the Saturday workshop so I’ll get to listen in and, possibly, pick up some paper piecing hints.
