What a day

Friday, April 6, 2012

I thought my first task of the day would be to sandwich my Sudoku quilt but when I came up to my studio this morning I decided I was ready to tackle the free-motion quilting on my Mystery Quilt. I did a few practice rounds to get my tension right and got a good start on it before lunch.

Pat and I went out to the Savory Bight for lunch (yes, they do serve gluten-free). The restaurant is right on the water and has recently re-opened for the season. It was a bright, sunny day and the view was spectacular, although we decided it was too cool to sit out on the patio. Just as we were leaving the restaurant we spotted a pod of dolphins. We moved a little closer to the water where a seal was keeping his eye on us. And while we watched the dolphins swim past an eagle was taking off and landing from the trees on the beach. It feels like such a blessing no matter how many times we see the wildlife.

Do you remember this photo from last fall? At the time I wondered what the crowd of folks were doing across the street at City Hall. It didn’t take much to guess what they were up to, and the evidence has been obvious for at least a week. I finally got my camera out today and took another photo.

I spent a long afternoon (and into the evening) and got the quilting finished on my Mystery Quilt. I hadn’t expected to get so far on it and once I was close to being done I really wanted to be done. I put some stitching in the border that I might take out again. I only stitched it down because the batting I’m using says you should quilt on a four-inch grid. The math got to me again and after it was stitched I realized the border is only three inches and the binding will secure it on the edges anyway. I’ll see how I feel about it in the morning.

I’m off to get some dinner and relax for the evening.
