The bee was buzzing today. On one side of the room there were four of us working on our quilted jackets. On two other sides several ladies were working on one of the raffle quilts for our next quilt show. And the other side was reserved for women working on their own projects – two were doing community quilts, one was finishing her thread catcher and another was making doggie blankets. Gwen’s dog had a litter of four puppies and she is making a doggie blanket for each of them. When she sells the puppies they will each go with a blanket – something that is familiar to them in their new home.
I spent most of the day sandwiching the pieces of my jacket. I had hoped to get a good start on the quilting but finished less than one sleeve. The instructor kept giving me a hard time because I pinned quite heavily (“Are you sure you have that pinned enough?”) and because I drew on my quilting lines (“Can’t you just stitch a straight line?”). She came to my defense though when someone else commented on how long it was taking me (“Slow and steady is fine!”).
And I admit I was slow. All my fabric pieces were done when I arrived at the bee this morning. Another of the ladies, who was still stitching her fabric together this morning, ended up with all her sandwiching done and the back quilted before we left at the end of the day.
Margaret was released from the hospital this afternoon. She says she is a little sore, but feeling fine. She’s already making plans for our shift at the Red Cross on Thursday!
Hockey (and crocheting) tonight!
