Quilted Jacket

My fabrics

I spent all day at the quilted jacket class. I don’t know how anyone thought we would get this done in two days – I think I‘ll need at least a week to finish mine.

We spent most of the morning choosing a pattern, adjusting the pattern to our size and then tracing and cutting out our adjusted pattern. The instructor didn’t have a pattern for the jacket I wanted to make so “we will figure it out when we start sewing.” Sounds like my Home Economics’ blouse all over again!

Next I stitched all those squares together to make a piece of material. I have a back, two sleeves and two front pieces included in my pattern (pockets, cuffs, and binding will follow). After sewing seams all day I have a piece of fabric made for the back, and half of one of the fronts finished. I hope to get the rest of the fabric pieces done tomorrow. Our class will continue at the Tuesday morning bee.

I’m already thinking this isn’t the jacket for me. Maybe it is the sort of thing every quilter makes once (thinking it would be a good idea) and then never wears.
