Wind day

Saturday, February 25, 2012

I was looking forward to my quilted jacket class. The teacher was coming from Texada and that little ferry usually goes and goes, even when the big ferry can’t. We were under a wind warning this morning, but the seven o’clock ferry came and went so I didn’t give it another thought. I was getting ready to go when the organizer called to say the class for today was cancelled. Apparently the eight o’clock ferry from Texada was cancelled and Barb couldn’t get over here. She couldn’t be sure when the next ferry would run so it was best to wait another day.

I didn’t want to unpack my sewing machine, but I had a project in mind that I didn’t need my machine for. I got my final cookie tin last Tuesday at the bee (almost three weeks late). It is due back to the owner on Thursday and I was concerned that I wouldn’t have enough time to get my block completed. In fact I was planning to stay home from the bee on Tuesday to work on it. The woman who gets the tin back is one of our regular group and the contents of the tin are meant to be a secret until the tin is returned. Today was like a free day though so I got it started.

I had seen this particular cookie tin before and I knew that I needed to do an appliqué block. I wanted to try a different appliqué technique but with limited time I thought I’d better go back to my tried and true method. I already had my pattern picked out but when I cut out the pieces I realized that they were too large. I did a little resizing on the templates and came up with a combination that worked. I spent the afternoon doing the hand stitching and I’m far enough along to know that I won’t have any trouble getting it done before Thursday.

It is still quite windy out but the warning is down so I’m looking forward to my class tomorrow. I don’t know yet whether the second day of the class will be one of our Tuesday morning sessions or on a different weekend.
