In my schedule for Thursdays I’ve added time to do a little office work. Today was my first attempt and, although I spent most of the morning in my office, I didn’t get much done other than pay some bills and mail off a few packages. My hope was that this “office” day would give me time to work on my photo project and my stories. Perhaps I’ll get to those projects next week.

Margaret wasn’t able to make it to the Red Cross shift today and, for the first hour and a half, I was on my own. Margaret called to see how I was doing and I had to cut her off when my first customer came in the door. I got them sorted out and then the convener stopped by. She did a bit of fussing about (as she always does) and then it was time to go. I was almost out the door when the phone rang. It was the front desk calling to say, “I know you close at 2, but I’m just going to send some people down now”. By the time I sorted them out and got the equipment washed down it was close to 2:30. Is it called overtime when you are volunteering?

I did a bit of quilting after I got home. I’m enjoying the process more because I am spreading the work out over the week (more than a week if you count the part I finished before I set it aside). The other large pieces I’ve done I have quilted them in one or two sessions, without breaking for other projects. I’m still not ready to start the free motion quilting, but I’m happy with the straight line stitching I’ve done so far.

I’m off to do a few more of my Italian lessons. I think I could ask for something to eat and drink – do I really need to learn anything more?
