Margaret had a stop to make on the way to our Red Cross shift this afternoon. We stopped at Dollarama so she could pick up some birthday cards. I had a couple of things I needed for this thread catcher project I’m going to be doing – a glue stick and some shelf liner. We still had some time to waste before heading to the hospital so we spent a few minutes at the Economy Shop.
Tonight was the opening gala for the film festival. Pat had another engagement so I walked up to the Complex. Just up the street from our house I saw two deer in one of the yards. We also saw a deer on the way home from the movie last night. And it was just the beginning of the week when I said to Pat that the deer must be off having their babies because we hadn’t seen any for a while.
The opening reception was catered by one of the local restaurants. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. It could have been that after my long walk I wanted to cool off rather than nibble on hot food. I spent some time talking to a woman who lives south of town. Her stepson was the cameraman for one of the movies I’ll be seeing.
I enjoyed the film tonight, in spite of the fact that there was an unexpected intermission when they had problems with one of the reels. The way I understood the problem was that the last projectionist (who is running a film festival in India) didn’t label things correctly and when they switched reels the movie was upside down. This is apparently the last 35 mm film that the festival will be showing – I guess it really is time to switch!
I enjoyed my walk home but didn’t take the back streets, as I wanted the security of better lighting on the main drag. The deer were friendly when our paths crossed the first time but I didn’t want to risk a second encounter. I was nearly home, just crossing the street at the Church, when I was nearly run over. I had seen the car signaling to turn, and then it stopped so I assumed the driver had seen me. Apparently she didn’t because I had to run to get out of her way.
I was stopped on the other side of the street and watched the car stop and then go and then turn around. I decided to wait and see what the driver had to say. I think she was shaken up more than I was. I told her I appreciated that she had stopped. I will have to get reflectors for my jacket for when I’m walking at night.
