A new technique

This morning, while having my coffee, I was reading one of the blogs I follow. The topic was scrap pieces. The author was talking about what she does with the scraps left from squaring up her project after she finishes the quilting on it. As I had just finished squaring up (sort of) my Bench Cover I was very interested.

She takes all the trimmed-off pieces and separates the fabric from the batting. The fabric goes into her scrap bin (to be dealt with later) and she makes small pieces from the batting. She uses those batting pieces for dusting, and when the dusting is finished she just throws them away. Perhaps if I think of dusting as another quilting technique I will get around to doing it!

I spent a good part of the day hunched over my iron fiddling with pieces for three appliqué blocks. This is the part I hate the most – turning under the edges of those tiny pieces. One of the blocks had 27 pieces; another had 23 pieces. The last one I’m working on is much smaller – just 17 pieces.

We had a “winter storm” today – the weather warnings had been up for a couple of days. There was a bit of snow this morning, but it had turned to rain by the time I picked Margaret up for her appointment. All that remains now is some wind.

I spent all evening knitting and I’m close to finishing Will’s afghan. At one time I had the foolish idea that maybe I could finish Alex’s quilt and send the two at the same time. I must have had that thought when I was on the meds for my back!
