It’s still a mystery

I spent all day sewing my Mystery Quilt with the Guild. There are 18 members all working on the same pattern, but with the variations in fabric every quilt is going to look completely different. I understand there are twelve steps to the quilt; I finished step eight before I quit for the day. I have stitched all these lovely pieces together and I’m still no closer to knowing what the finished product will look like.

The Seniors’ Center is a wonderful place for sewing. It is well lit, and there are windows (with vertical blinds) on three of the four walls. We opened up the blinds and had some lovely natural light while we were stitching. This is the first time many of us have sewn here and we were commenting all day about the delightful surroundings. Some were saying the dishwasher in the kitchen was worth the price of admission (we pay $1 each time we are in the building); some thought that the cleanliness of the room (and no musty smell) was the best part.

Personally I was sold on the place when I went into the washroom. At the Soccer Center we had to go downstairs to the damp, dark basement to find the washroom. We were lucky if there were soap and paper towels at the sink, and toilet paper in even one of the stalls. The washroom is just a few steps away from where we sew. It is clean and bright, with a bouquet of flowers (artificial) on the vanity. There was even scented soap to wash our hands with.

We’ll continue working on our Mystery Quilts tomorrow and, in theory, I will have a quilt top finished by the end of the day.
